Lexington High School has been recognized as one of the top high schools in the Columbia metropolitan area for the 2026-2027 academic year, according to a list released yesterday by a national media group. The school secured the seventh position among the ten best high schools in the region.

The national media group evaluates high schools across the country using six distinct categories, which include college readiness, state assessment proficiency, state assessment performance, support for underserved students, college curriculum breadth, and graduation rates. Student proficiencies in mathematics, reading, and science are also factored into the overall scoring and ranking system.

Lexington High School achieved a score of 84.56. The school reports a graduation rate of 91% and has a current student enrollment of 2,536. Student proficiency levels at Lexington High School were recorded as 52% in mathematics, 88% in reading, and 61% in science.

Other Lexington County schools also featured prominently on the list. Spring Hill High School was ranked first in the Columbia area, and fifth statewide, with a score of 96.04 and a 97% graduation rate. Chapin High School placed second with a score of 94.06 and a 93% graduation rate. River Bluff High School was third, scoring 91.62 with a 93% graduation rate. Dutch Fork High School secured the fifth spot, earning a score of 90.14 and an 89% graduation rate.
