## Lexington Two Students Offer Community Support

Barbering students from Lexington School District Two recently provided free haircuts to individuals experiencing homelessness in Columbia. The students established a temporary barbershop at St. Peter’s Catholic Church as part of a community outreach initiative.

The haircuts were offered by students enrolled in the barbering program at the Lexington Two Innovation Center. This effort served a dual purpose: to assist community members and to offer students practical experience before their graduation.

Summer Moore, a student from Lexington Two, expressed that the outreach allowed her to utilize her skills to benefit others. Chet Henderson, a barber instructor at the Lexington Two Innovation Center, noted that the program is designed to immerse students in real-world scenarios while they are still in school.

Henderson indicated that the outreach program commenced approximately five years ago and has since continued with the pop-up barbershop operating once or twice each semester. During the most recent event, students provided haircuts to more than 50 individuals. In addition to the haircuts, food, clothing, and various supplies were also distributed at the event.
