LEXINGTON, S.C. — High school students from the Lexington School District Two Innovation Center in Lexington, S.C., got a close look at manufacturing careers Friday, Oct. 2, during a visit to Scout Motors’ Production Training Center in Blythewood for National Manufacturing Day.

Students from several Midlands high schools joined hands-on activities, skills demonstrations and career talks at the facility. Schiria Wilson, director of the Lexington Two Innovation Center, said the trip showed students pathways into full-time manufacturing work after graduation.

Wilson said students took part in interactive activities that tied to the hands-on learning they receive every day in the district’s career and technical education pathways. She described the center’s approach as pathways in and pathways out, aiming to show viable options for students who finish CTE programs.

Wilson said partnerships between industry and schools give students opportunities that are hard to measure in a classroom alone, and she thanked Scout Motors for hosting the visit. The tour was part of a broader Manufacturing Day push that brings Midlands students into working facilities.

District leaders said they hope visits like this encourage more students to consider advanced manufacturing careers as Scout Motors builds its South Carolina operations.
