# Gaston, S.C.: Driver dies after SUV overturns off U.S. 321

GASTON, S.C. — A driver died early Sunday when a Chevrolet Tahoe ran off U.S. 321 near Woodcote Drive in the Gaston area of Lexington County, the South Carolina Highway Patrol said.

Master Trooper William Bennett said the single-vehicle collision happened about 2:50 a.m. on Oct. 11. The 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling north when it left the left side of the road, went down an embankment and overturned.

The driver died at the scene and was the only person in the SUV, Bennett said. No other injuries were reported.

The Lexington County Coroner Office has not publicly identified the driver, and troopers have not said whether a seat belt was in use.

What caused the Tahoe to leave the roadway was not immediately available. The Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the wreck.

State Department of Public Safety figures cited with the crash report show at least 24 people have died in Lexington County crashes so far in 2026, after 40 roadway deaths there in 2025.
