LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — The National Weather Service in Columbia kept an updated tornado warning in effect until 7:30 p.m. Saturday for Lexington and Saluda counties as remnants of Hurricane Isaias fueled a long-track severe storm.
At 7:17 p.m., NWS said a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Batesburg-Leesville, moving north at 25 mph, with flying debris, roof and vehicle damage, and tree damage likely.
Locations listed in the warning footprint included Cedar Grove Fire Station, Lake Murray Shores, South Shore Marina, Oswald Park, Circle Fire Station, Hollow Creek Public Park, Delmar and Wyses Ferry.
Matthew Gropp, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Columbia, said the same thunderstorm complex issued about 12 tornado warnings as it tracked from Allendale County through Barnwell and Aiken and eventually north into Lexington County.
Gropp said the tornadoes were possibly ranging from 0 to 2 on the EF-Scale. Survey teams were out Oct. 11 to assess damage after Barnwell County reported downed power lines and poles near S.C. Highway 37 and Freedom Road.
