Lexington, S.C. — Fall-themed scarecrows are lining Main Street in downtown Lexington through Thursday, Oct. 29, as the Scarecrow Stroll returns for its fifth year.
The displays come from more than 40 downtown merchants and area businesses. The town of Lexington and the Lexington Chamber and Visitors Center team up to present the event, which is free and family-friendly.
Scarecrows began arriving on Monday, Oct. 12. Businesses compete in several categories, and the public can vote for the People Choice Award by liking a favorite scarecrow photo on the town of Lexington Facebook page.
A panel of judges will also select the Best Overall scarecrow. Last year, the Lexington County Coroner Office took home the People Choice Award for its Pumpkin King of Prevention entry.
This year several scarecrows will also be placed farther up Main Street along the Old Mill Pond Trail, a 1.15-mile walking trail that opened last year and circles Lexington Mill Pond.
Past entries have featured movie themes and musical artists, with businesses using the designs to show off their brands.
