LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — One person died and two others were injured in a head-on crash Tuesday morning on U.S. 178 in Lexington County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Master Trooper William Bennett said the crash happened at 7:17 a.m. on U.S. Highway 178, also known as Fairview Road, near the intersection with T.A. Fore Road.

Troopers said a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu traveling east struck a 2021 Dodge Durango traveling west. The driver of the Durango was the only person in that vehicle and died at the scene.

The driver and a passenger in the Malibu were taken by EMS to the hospital for their injuries.

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office is expected to release the name of the driver who died. The crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
