LEXINGTON, S.C. — A North Carolina man who served as power of attorney for a resident of a Lexington assisted living facility is charged with taking more than $10,000 of that person’s money and assets, the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office said Tuesday.

Paul M. Bostrom, 58, of Highlands, North Carolina, is charged with exploitation of a vulnerable adult and breach of trust with fraudulent intent, valued at $10,000 or more.

A joint investigation by the Attorney General’s Vulnerable Adults and Medicaid Provider Fraud unit and the Lexington Police Department alleges Bostrom used his position to convert the victim’s funds and assets for his own benefit while the victim lived in an assisted living facility in Lexington.

Bostrom was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center on Monday, Oct. 12, after his arrest.

The exploitation charge carries up to five years in prison. The breach of trust charge carries up to 10 years in prison or a fine set by the court. Bostrom is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
