LEXINGTON, S.C. — A Cuban restaurant that grew out of a market tent in downtown Columbia is getting ready to open a second kitchen in Lexington, inside the Shoppes at Flight Deck shopping center.

Cuban Corner shared the plan on Facebook on Oct. 16. Work on the new space was already visible two days later in a video showing walls being painted, trash hauled out and tables moved around a roomy dining area with a bar.

No firm opening date has been set. The family behind the restaurant hopes to welcome customers in November or December.

The business started as a booth at the weekly Soda City Market more than four years ago, then moved into a storefront at 1212 Hampton St. in 2025. Its menu leans on island staples such as pressed Cuban sandwiches, sweet fried plantains, croquettes, empanadas, Cuban coffee and ropa vieja.

The Lexington spot puts it in a busy retail strip near downtown. Neighbors in the plaza include the Flight Deck Restaurant and Mother’s Oysters + Pies, and state traffic counts show about 41,000 vehicles a day on West Main Street there.
