Events Around Columbia
A variety of events are scheduled to take place in the Columbia area. Preach Jacobs will engage in conversation with attorney, author, political commentator, and former South Carolina state Representative Bakari Sellers at the Gallery at the Koger Center for the Arts in Columbia. Also at the Koger Center for the Arts, rising artists and songwriters Meredith Foster, Drew Dangerfield, and Blake Weinbach are set to perform acoustic music and share the stories behind their songs in the Black Box. Indie-rock artist Molly Martin will perform with an opening set from Columbia band Homemade Haircuts on the Plaza Stage at the Koger Center for the Arts.
The Irmo Okra Strut, celebrating its 51st year, will feature live music, an okra-eating contest, and a laser show at Moore Park in Irmo. WWE NXT Live will showcase rising WWE stars, including NXT champions Tony D’Angelo, Lola Vice, Myles Borne, and Zaria, competing in professional wrestling matches at the Township Auditorium in Columbia.
The Palmetto Peanut Boil will include food, live music, and kids’ entertainment, with teams competing for a peanut-boiling championship trophy. All food and beverage proceeds from this event will benefit Animal Mission. The Cola Cafe Fest at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center will offer samples from over 40 coffee, tea, bakery, dessert, and specialty drink businesses, along with a latte art competition and live demonstrations.
Yoga with Kittens will allow participants to practice yoga alongside kittens, with a portion of the proceeds supporting the Cat Around Town Project. Donations of cat supplies will also be accepted. A free public stargazing night will be held at the Melton Memorial Observatory in Columbia, offering views of the moon, planets, and stars through telescopes, weather permitting.
The Betsy Kaemmerlen Art Collection Sale at Stormwater Studios in Columbia will feature fine art, pottery, vintage purses, and other items from artist Betsy Kaemmerlen’s personal collection, including a Titanic portrait made with coal. South Carolina Philharmonic musicians will perform Oktoberfest-inspired selections in the gardens of the Hampton-Preston Mansion and Gardens in Columbia as part of a Concert in the Gardens.
