OXFORD, Miss. — The South Carolina volleyball team wraps up a four-match road stretch on Sunday, Oct. 18, against Ole Miss, with first serve set for 1 p.m. Eastern.
The Gamecocks have struggled away from home. They lost 3-1 at Alabama and were swept at Mississippi State last week, then fell to LSU on Friday night. Entering the weekend they were 8-8 overall and 1-5 in the SEC.
Ole Miss is in a similar spot at 8-8 and 2-3 in league play. The Rebels opened SEC play by sweeping Alabama and beating Missouri 3-1 before dropping their next three in straight sets. They tend to close strong, going a combined 17-14 in third, fourth and fifth sets compared with 13-21 in the first two, and they are unbeaten at 7-0 when they serve at least seven aces.
The net could decide it. The two teams post similar offensive and defensive numbers, but Ole Miss ranks third in the SEC in blocks allowed while South Carolina sits ninth. On the back line, Ole Miss has the SEC’s top digger in Cameron Bradley, who averages 4.93 per set.
For the Gamecocks, Olivia Borgman has reached 11 or more kills in 10 matches this season, and Ally Cavanaugh set a season high with 11 kills on .579 hitting at Alabama. South Carolina leads the all-time series 30-23 and swept Ole Miss at home last season.
