The Irmo Police Department (IPD) announced the arrest of a woman accused of abandoning a child under the age of 10 at the park for hours.
At around 7:40 p.m. on Saturday, officers said they were called to the Irmo Community Park on Eastview Drive for an abandoned child. The caller noticed their grandchild playing with a kid who did not appear to be with an adult or guardian. After an hour passed, the child revealed they were dropped off by their mother and did not know how to contact her.
Officers took custody of the child, who was able to provide details about their mother and the car she drove. When a car matching the description drove by without stopping, an officer conducted a traffic stop and identified Frankie Campbell-Provo, 55, as the driver. Campbell-Provo admitted to leaving the child at the park to go grocery shopping.
Campbell-Provo was arrested and charged with unlawful conduct toward a child for abandoning the child, putting them at risk. She was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, and the child was released to a family member.
