Mexican restaurants are among the top three food choices in all of America. Although not all Mexican restaurants deserve to be in those top three, I can safely tell you that the San Jose in Lexington does. I tend to score restaurants on three key things; food, service, and setting, each on a ‘5-Star scale’ and San Jose did well in every single category, but let’s elaborate starting with the service.
When we arrived at around 6:45, it was pretty packed, and they told us we would have about a 20-minute wait which was not a big deal for us because we were there with a group of friends and we just went to the bar area to get a drink. I ordered Sprite as per usual and when I was given it, it tasted horrible. They had reached the bottom of the machine and there was no flavor, just club soda. Now the reason this is important is that I asked the waitress working at the bar if I could get a new Sprite and she immediately apologized and got me a new drink. Although I knew it was a bit inconvenient since she had other people waiting for drinks, she attended to me with a smile and that’s something I keep in mind when rating a restaurant. After that 20-minute wait was up, we were seated and asked if we needed any other drinks. We were having a great time and were talking quite a bit so when the waitress came to ask if we were ready to order we declined and asked if she could come back in a bit. Once she came back, we were ready to order. Now, because I always order the same meal every time I go to a Mexican restaurant, the consistency in ordering really helped me tell the difference between food quality in each restaurant. After about a 15-minute wait, we received our order and I was very pleasantly surprised. I would have to rate the service 4.5 stars.
Although one beef soft taco does not seem like enough to fill you up, after some chips and dip, it was enough for me. Overall, the meal was hot and well cooked, the ingredients weren’t just thrown on the wrap and then in the plate, not to mention how good it actually was. The food throughout the table was very different with each person having something new to try. Although I cannot speak for them, I can speak for myself in saying that it everything that everyone had was delicious and although I order the same thing, I would be very tempted to order one of the meals that someone else got and overall, I would rate the food 5 stars.
Lastly, the setting of the restaurant. Now, I don’t mean was it pretty outside, I mean was it clean, bright, and nicely decorated inside! It was incredibly clean, and our table was wiped down and cleaned up after the people sitting there had left. The floor seemed moped recently considering there were no crumbs or food on the floor beneath our table or around us. As well as the cleanliness, there were decorations everywhere making the place feel bright and homely. Overall, I rate the setting 5 stars. And in the end, I would also rate the restaurant 5 stars as well. I would 100% recommended if you’re looking for a wonderful place to eat dinner.
