The match saw Lexington SC open with positive play, registering two blocked shots within the first two minutes. However, it was not until nearly the half-hour mark that either team recorded an official shot on goal, when Bryce Jamison of the Switchbacks had his attempt saved by Lexington SC goalkeeper Oliver Semmle. In the second half, Marcus Epps of Lexington SC forced a low save from Colorado Springs’ Christian Herrera, who then made another crucial save on a one-on-one opportunity for Phillip Goodrum.
The breakthrough came with 16 minutes remaining in the game. After a shot by Sadam Masereka was blocked, the ball rebounded to Jonas Fjeldberg, who struck from 25 yards out, finding the bottom-left corner of the net. Fjeldberg, a second-half substitute, nearly added a second goal six minutes later, hitting the left post from a cross by Masereka. The Switchbacks ultimately secured the three points, moving them back above the playoff line.
Lexington SC recorded only two shots on target throughout the game, with the Switchbacks’ defense blocking seven of their 14 total shots. This result puts renewed pressure on Lexington SC’s postseason aspirations. Notably, Lexington SC has allowed nine goals to opposing substitutes this season, which is the second-highest in the Championship campaign.
