COLUMBIA, S.C. — A federal judge in Columbia has ordered Timothy Sloan, a 61-year-old Lexington man, to serve 81 months behind bars on a guilty plea for having images of children being sexually abused.

Prosecutors from the District of South Carolina U.S. Attorney’s Office brought the case in federal court. Agents with the FBI’s Columbia field office led the investigation.

Investigators said Sloan kept upward of 100 files, photos and videos alike, depicting the abuse of toddlers and young children. He was also active in online groups whose members discussed grooming kids for abuse.

When he is released, Sloan will remain under court supervision for 15 years. The sentence also includes fines and a $25,000 restitution order for the victims.

The 81-month term works out to just under seven years behind bars.
