LEXINGTON, S.C. — Nearly half a kilogram of methamphetamine found under a car seat on Interstate 20 has led to a 25-year prison term in Lexington County for a 41-year-old man from Augusta, Georgia.
Jurors in Lexington County convicted Angelo Allen on Oct. 8 of trafficking at least 400 grams of meth. Judge Jane Merrill imposed 25 years, the least the law allows for that charge, and parole is off the table because South Carolina counts drug trafficking among its violent, serious crimes.
The arrest traces back to March 12, 2025. Deputies pulled Allen over on I-20 in Lexington County as he headed from Augusta toward Lexington. He agreed to a search, and lab testing put the drugs found under the passenger seat at 491 grams. He was alone, and the car was registered to him.
At trial, jurors were told he had come from Georgia to carry out a drug transaction. The case was built by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, through its Multi-Agency Narcotics Enforcement Team, while the 11th Circuit Solicitor’s Office took it to trial.
He is now in state prison custody to begin his sentence.
