Lexington, SC Mourns the Loss of Melissa Paige Bouknight Frierson
Melissa Paige Bouknight Frierson, a cherished member of the Lexington community, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2024. She was 63 years old and is remembered for her devotion as a wife and mother. Melissa was born on November 29, 1961, to Willie Ray Bouknight and Elizabeth “Lib” Corley Bouknight in Lexington, SC, where she spent her entire life.
Early Life and Education
Paige, as she was affectionately known, was a dedicated student at Lexington High School, graduating with the Class of 1980. She displayed her leadership skills by serving as Senior Class President. Her involvement extended to various school activities; she held a Junior Class Officer position, contributed to the school newspaper, the Wildcat, and was an officer in the Honor Society. Furthermore, Paige was also a proud member of the LHS Cheerleading Team, showcasing her school spirit.
A Prize-Winning Scholar
Outstanding achievements marked Paige’s youth. She received the prestigious Daughters of the American Revolution’s Good Citizen Award and the James F. Byrnes Scholarship. After high school, she pursued a degree in education at the University of South Carolina, where she joined the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, building lifelong friendships.
Devoted Educator and Community Member
After completing her education, Paige dedicated her life to nurturing young minds. She taught at Pineview Elementary and later at Satchel Ford Elementary, touching the lives of countless students. Her impact was felt beyond the classroom as she fostered strong relationships within the community and served as a lifelong and active member of the Lutheran Church.
A True Sports Enthusiast
In addition to her professional achievements, Paige was also known for her passion for sports. She was an avid fan of the South Carolina Gamecocks, often cheering for the team at home games and traveling with fellow supporters.
Family Life and Legacy
Paige’s personal life was filled with love. She is survived by her devoted husband, Blane Hylton, her son Ray Frierson and his wife Katherine, her daughter Corley Frierson, and her siblings, Libby Ray Berry and husband Randy, and Steve “Baukie” Bouknight and wife Martha. She also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Paige was preceded in death by her father, mother, and her late husband of 24 years, Frank Frierson.
Final Farewell
To honor her life, a funeral service will take place at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Lexington, SC, on Monday, December 16, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Following the service, a visitation will be held in the Social Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church Building Maintenance Fund, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Columbia, SC, and Shepherd of the Sea Lutheran Church in Murrells Inlet, SC.

Paige’s kindness, positivity, and vibrant spirit left a profound impression on everyone who knew her. Her legacy will continue to inspire those she leaves behind, and she will be forever missed.
