COLUMBIA, S.C. — Winter Weather on the Horizon

As many of us are looking forward to enjoying the cozy comforts of winter, there’s a bit of a chill and uncertainty brewing in the air here in Columbia. With winter storm watches now in place for some Midlands counties, many school districts are taking precautions and making changes to their schedules.

School Districts Adjusting Their Schedules

Starting off, we received word that the Calhoun County School System has decided to cancel all after-school activities, aftercare programs, and even sporting events planned for Friday, January 10. This decision is likely aimed at keeping everyone safe and sound as icy conditions could make travel quite tricky.

Now, for sports enthusiasts, there’s a change in the lineup too! The basketball game that was slated for Friday will now happen on Thursday, January 9. So, if you’re planning to catch that game, make sure to mark your calendars!

Over in Lexington Two, similar adjustments are being made. They’ve also put the brakes on after-school activities and programs for that same Friday. This means there will be a pause on athletic events, practices, extracurricular activities, and even rehearsals for the kids. As if that weren’t enough, after-school programs like the Boys and Girls Clubs, as well as adult education classes, are also off the table. Just like Calhoun County, some of their athletic events have been shifted to Thursday as well, with schools planning to reach out to families and athletes with the latest info.

Richland Two’s Changes

The Richland Two school district has joined the fray as well, announcing that all athletic events originally set for Friday night have now been moved to Thursday night, January 9. It looks like Thursday is shaping up to be a busy day for local sports fans! Other Friday night activities and events will be rescheduled as per the respective schools, so be sure to stay tuned to communications from them.

Regular School Days Ahead?

On another note, it’s good to hear that, as of now, there are no changes to the school day schedule for Friday, January 10. This means the kids will still head to class as usual. Additionally, after-school care programs and 21st Century Academic Programs will operate on their regular schedules, providing peace of mind for parents relying on those services.

Stay Informed and Prepared

As we brace for what could be a wintry mix later this week, it’s a smart idea to keep an eye on updates from various school districts. With the unpredictable nature of winter storms, staying informed will help us all better prepare for what’s to come. Remember that notifications can be managed right in your browser settings, so you won’t miss any important announcements!

With that said, let’s all stay warm and safe as we look ahead to the potential frosty weather. It’s always better to be prepared and informed, so whether you’re a student, a parent, or just a concerned citizen, make sure you’re tuned into the latest updates concerning our local schools. Let’s weather this storm together!
