News Summary

Stanford University is poised to defend its title at the 2025 NCAA Women’s D-I Regionals, which will take place from May 5-7. After an impressive victory at the 2024 championships, the team seeks to be the first to win consecutive championships since Duke in 2005. With 72 teams competing, there’s fierce competition from other elite golf programs. The regional tournaments promise thrilling moments as teams seek advancement to the NCAA Women’s Championship and aim for glory in this prestigious event.

Stanford Ready to Defend Women’s Golf Crown in 2025 Regionals!

Stanford, California – Excitement is on the rise as the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Committee has officially unveiled plans for the highly anticipated 2025 NCAA Women’s D-I Regionals, set to take place from May 5-7. Fresh off their triumphant win at the 2024 championships at the beautiful Omni La Costa Resort in sunny Carlsbad, Stanford is gearing up to defend their title, aiming to make history as the first team to win back-to-back championships since Duke pulled it off in 2005.

Stanford Leads the Pack

This year’s tournament features a whopping 72 teams and 36 individuals vying for a shot at glory, with Stanford leading the seeds. They are joined by other elite teams like Arkansas, Florida State, South Carolina, Oregon, and Texas—all of whom bring their own unique flair and skill to the course.

A remarkable showing from the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) has lined up a total of 12 schools from each, providing fierce competition. The Big 12 isn’t too far behind with 11 qualifiers, while the Big Ten boasts eight schools in the regional mix.

Six Thrilling Regional Tournaments

The excitement doesn’t stop there! Six women’s regional tournaments promise to deliver high-stakes golf action, with each tournament set for 54 holes of gripping play. For the third year running, five teams from each regional will advance to the prestigious NCAA Women’s Championship.

This year, teams aiming for an at-large bid will need to maintain a .500 or better head-to-head winning percentage throughout the 2024-25 season—excluding three teams that have already secured their spot: Clemson, Kentucky, and Alabama. Each regional site will feature 12 teams, alongside six individual competitors. The individual golfer with the lowest score who isn’t part of an advancing team will also get a ticket to nationals, adding another layer of excitement!

The Championship Showdown Awaits

Mark your calendars, as the NCAA Women’s Championship is set to take place from May 16-21, also returning to the Omni La Costa Resort for its second consecutive year. Golf fans can look forward to the North course, which has undergone a stunning renovation by renowned golf course designers Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner, as it will host both the Women’s and Men’s NCAA finals through 2028.

The championship format includes a thrilling stroke-play segment to determine the individual champion, which covers 72 holes of nail-biting competition, followed by head-to-head match play to crown the team champion. With Stanford having previously triumphed against UCLA to win their third title last year, all eyes are on them to see if they can once again reign supreme.

A New Individual Champion to Emerge

With Texas A&M’s talented sophomore Adela Cernousek stepping into the professional circuit, golf enthusiasts have the opportunity to witness a completely new individual champion emerge in spring 2025. The allure of fresh competition will surely captivate audiences, as top talents from across the country gear up for an unforgettable championship run.

Regional Venues Ready for Action

Golfers will soon be heading to six fantastic regional sites: Birdwood Golf Club in Charlottesville, Virginia, hosted by Virginia; Ohio State University Golf Club in Columbus, Ohio, hosted by Ohio State; Superstition Mountain Golf & Country Club in Gold Canyon, Arizona, hosted by Arizona State; Keene Trace Golf Club in Lexington, Kentucky, hosted by Kentucky; The Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas, hosted by Texas Tech; and Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Oklahoma, hosted by Oklahoma. Each venue is set to showcase top-notch talent, including individual standouts like Pinky Chaisilprungruang from Charlotte and Isabella Rawl from Clemson, all seeking their chance at glory.

This year’s competition is set to be one for the history books! With so much on the line and a diverse array of talent, fans can expect stunning performances and perhaps even a few surprises along the way. After all, in the world of collegiate golf, anything can happen!
