Gothenburg Swedes Golf Team Competes in Two Tournaments, Finishing 10th and 5th
This past week has been quite eventful for the Gothenburg Swedes golf team, as they ventured out to compete in not one, but two challenging tournaments! Their journey kicked off on Tuesday, April 22, when the team headed to McCook for the highly anticipated Ron Coleman Invitational held at the beautiful Heritage Hills Golf Course.
A Tough Day in McCook
With 13 teams battling it out on the greens, the competition was fierce and the course turned out to be quite challenging. In the end, the Swedes found themselves finishing in 10th place overall, but every cloud has its silver lining! McCook’s red team took home the championship title in a dominant fashion, followed closely by Holdrege and Gering.
On an individual level, McCook’s very own Landon Kmoch stole the show, posting a remarkable score of 5 over par 77 for the day. For the Swedes, freshman Brady Cornwell shone bright, achieving the team’s low score of 17 over par 89, which earned him a respectable 27th place. Other notable scores from the Swedes included:
- Valon Pfeifer: 93, placing 33rd
- Jaxon Earll: 95, placing 39th
- Dillon Floyd: 99, placing 49th
- Trey Bartels: 111, placing 61st
Home Sweet Home: The Wild Horse Invitational
Fast forward to Thursday, April 24, the Swedes reveled in the comfort of home turf as they hosted a home invitational at Wild Horse. With 15 teams participating, the atmosphere was electric, and the Swedes thrived on their home advantage. They finished in an impressive 5th place, marking a significant bounce back from their earlier tournament!
Once again, McCook demonstrated their prowess, recording the lowest team score with a total of 307, 19 over par. Other standout teams included North Platte with a score of 311, Holdrege at 314, Aurora at 325, and Gothenburg pulling together a total of 327.
It was a day of excellent performances, with Ogallala’s Ryan Gilmore shooting an outstanding low score of 72. For the Swedes, Brady Cornwell made his mark again, cracking into the top 20 with a score of 79, placing him at 16th overall. Meanwhile, Dillon Floyd and Trey Bartels both turned in solid performances, finishing 22nd and 25th respectively with a score of 82 each. Other individual results for Gothenburg included:
- Valon Pfeifer: 31st with a score of 84
- Jaxon Earll: 40th with a score of 86
JV Golfers Stepping Up
In addition to the varsity players, the junior varsity golfers from Gothenburg showed their skills as well. Their scores were as follows:

What’s Next for the Swedes?
After a week filled with ups and downs, the Swedes are not slowing down. Following their home invitational, they packed their bags to compete in Holdrege. Results from that event are still unavailable, but excitement is growing for their busy schedule, with upcoming games at Lexington on May 1 and Broken Bow on May 2!
