Columbia

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has announced a series of overnight lane closures in the Carolina Crossroads project area this weekend to facilitate necessary paving activities. The closures will affect the I-26 ramp to I-126, starting from 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, until 5 a.m. on Sunday, June 1, followed by another closure on Sunday, June 1, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Monday, June 2.

During the closures, traffic will be rerouted. Drivers heading for I-126 will need to exit I-26 at Exit 107A toward I-20, navigate through the cloverleaf, and re-enter I-26 at I-20 Exit 64A to return to Columbia. SCDOT is advising motorists to plan for potential delays during this time and to remain vigilant while traveling through the affected areas.

In addition to the ramp closures, SCDOT will implement temporary single-lane closures on I-20 East at mile marker 81 for shoulder repairs. These lane closures have been scheduled at specific times as outlined by SCDOT, which encourages drivers to reduce their speed in construction zones.

Future Lane Closures

Roadwork on a section of Interstate 26 in Columbia is anticipated to be completed overnight on Wednesday. A westbound lane will be closed in the Malfunction Junction area to allow for the installation of overhead signage. This particular lane closure is set to begin at 10 p.m. on Wednesday and is expected to reopen by 4 a.m. on Thursday.

To assist drivers, a detour will be established for those needing to access I-126. This detour will involve traveling I-26 westbound to I-20 westbound before returning to I-26 eastbound. Furthermore, message boards and lane closure signs will be placed along I-26 westbound to inform motorists of the upcoming detour routes.

The project focuses on enhancing the flow of traffic and improving safety features across critical intersections.

As part of the project, various roadwork efforts have been introduced to upgrade infrastructure and meet the increasing demands of the region’s transportation network.
