The accident involved four motorcycles and a Chrysler, with Walker not wearing a helmet at the time. Three other motorcyclists were injured, and the driver of the Chrysler remained unharmed. The ongoing investigation into the crash raises concerns about roadway safety, especially as traffic fatalities continue to rise in South Carolina.

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC – A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 resulted in the death of a motorcyclist on Saturday afternoon, as confirmed by the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP). The collision occurred at approximately 3:20 p.m. near mile marker 51, just under the Longs Pond Road overpass.

The incident involved five vehicles, consisting of four Harley-Davidson motorcycles and a 2024 Chrysler. According to reports, the Chrysler veered off the right side of the roadway and struck the four motorcycles, which were stopped on the shoulder. The driver of the Chrysler and the three passengers inside the vehicle were unharmed.

Kendall Lamar Walker, a 57-year-old resident of Augusta, Georgia, was riding a 2015 Harley-Davidson and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities noted that Walker was not wearing a helmet during the accident. The other three motorcyclists suffered injuries and were taken to Prisma Health Richland hospital for medical treatment, although their specific conditions have not been disclosed.

The SCHP, along with the SCHP MAIT and the Lexington County Coroner’s Office, is working together on the ongoing investigation into the crash. At this time, the circumstances surrounding the Chrysler’s deviation from the roadway remain unclear. There has been no information released on whether the surviving riders were wearing helmets or if seatbelts were in use within the Chrysler.

The crash caused significant disruptions on I-20, with multiple lanes on the eastbound side being blocked for several hours, leading to traffic delays. The scene was cleared by around 8 p.m. on Saturday, restoring normal traffic flow.

This tragic accident adds to South Carolina’s concerning traffic fatality statistics for this year. As of now, at least 371 traffic fatalities have been reported statewide in 2025, with 17 of those occurring in Lexington County alone. The urgency for road safety remains a critical discussion point in the state as such incidents continue to pose dangers to motorists.

The SCHP has not yet provided any further details regarding the investigation into the event or insights into potential contributing factors to the crash. This incident calls attention to the importance of roadway safety measures and the need for heightened awareness among all vehicle operators.

As the investigation unfolds, the Lexington County community grieves the loss of Walker, reflecting on the risks associated with motorcycling and the necessity for safety gear and protocols to be observed rigorously on the roads.
