A Life Well-Lived

Born in Hickory, North Carolina, Jerry was the beloved son of the late John F. and Marinel B. Rhodes. He grew up in a close-knit family and took his education seriously, graduating from Myrtle Beach High School. Following his passion for service, Jerry joined the United States Navy, where he dedicated several years to protecting our nation.

After his honorable military service, Jerry returned to civilian life and became an integral part of the Columbia community. He retired as a supervisor with the Columbia Post Office, a position he held with pride. His entrepreneurial spirit was also evident when he co-owned Ailes Market, a local business known to many in the area.

A Heart for Service

Jerry was deeply involved in his community through his church and various organizations. He was a long-time member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he made significant contributions, including serving on the Board of Deacons. His commitment didn’t stop there, as he was also an active participant in several community groups such as the Dutch Fork Optimist Club, North Columbia Optimist Club, and the St. Andrews Jaycees. Jerry’s dedication to serving others earned him the respect and admiration of many.

In addition, he was a proud member of the Dutch Fork Lodge #402 Masonic Lodge and the Jamil Shrine Temple, where he cultivated lasting friendships and made meaningful contributions to their missions.

His Legacy Lives On

Jerry’s legacy is carried on by his loving family. He is survived by his daughters, Melita R. Newman and Cindy R. Leary, as well as his sons, W. Lynn Rhodes and James E. Rhodes. He leaves behind a wonderful group of grandchildren, who adored him: J. Nicholas Perry, Lindsay P. Rish, Francis N. Smith, Charles T. Newman Jr., Julius L. Leary III, and Caroline L. Brown.
