Baseball Takes Down No. 21 Arcadia, 6-5, In South Carolina

The Ithaca College baseball team kicked off its spring break trip in stunning fashion with a 6-5 upset victory over No. 21 Arcadia University at Lexington County Stadium on March 10. The win improved Ithaca’s record to 4-2 for the season, with the Bombers securing four consecutive wins after starting the year with two losses.

Game Highlights

The match started with Arcadia taking an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning due to an error that allowed a runner to score from third base. However, in the third inning, Ithaca turned the tables and surged ahead 3-1 after Matt Curtis smacked a two-run home run with Collin Feeney on base, and Colin Shashaty singled home Ryan Laubscher.

Arcadia quickly responded with two runs in the bottom of the third, tying the score at 3-3 with a crucial two-run double. Nevertheless, Ithaca reclaimed the lead in the fourth inning, with Curtis delivering a two-run base hit to score Feeney and Ethan Rothstein, pushing the Bombers ahead 5-3.

The Knights fought back in the fifth inning to narrow the gap to 5-4 with a groundout. But Ithaca remained resilient, extending their lead to 6-4 in the sixth inning after an RBI single from Louis Fabbo that allowed Rothstein to score.

Key Players

Colin Leyner, who pitched 7.0 innings and recorded three strikeouts, earned the win for Ithaca. Sean Kelly and John Griffin also played pivotal roles on the mound, with Kelly striking out one in the eighth inning and Griffin securing his second save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.

Ethan Rothstein stood out at the plate for Ithaca, going 3-for-3 in the game. Matt Curtis, Collin Feeney, Ryan Laubscher, and Colin Shashaty all contributed offensively with two hits each.

Looking Ahead

Following this impressive victory, Ithaca College will face off against Trinity College (Conn.) in their next game scheduled for tomorrow morning at 9 a.m., continuing their quest for success in South Carolina.
