LEXINGTON, S.C. — Voters weighing who should help run Lexington County School District One get a chance to size up most of the field Monday night, Oct. 26, when the Lexington Chamber and Visitors Center hosts a school board candidate forum.
Doors open for the free event at 5:45 p.m. in the arts hall at White Knoll High School off Platt Springs Road, and it should wrap up by 7:30. Nobody needs to sign up ahead of time.
Eight candidates are slated to take part. Challengers Dana Homesley, Crystal Baker, Jack Lundeen, Chris Shealy and Joyce Joy Jordan will share the stage with sitting members Katie McCown, Chris Rice and Shelton Yonce. A League of Women Voters representative will moderate a timed question-and-answer round, and the audience will not be allowed to pose questions.
Nine candidates filed for three at-large seats on the board of the county’s largest school district, and all three incumbents, McCown, Rice and Yonce, want another term. Yonce won a June 2026 special election to finish an unexpired term. The seats are decided on Nov. 3.
Those who cannot make it can watch a livestream, and a recording will go up the next day on the chamber’s social media pages. The chamber, a nonprofit, says it takes no side in the race.
