The first life-threatening incident occurred Friday morning at 10:28 a.m. at which point the officers discovered a 65-year-old man in a grave condition. The second episode took place later that day, at 3:22 p.m. involving a 73-year-old man. Capt. William Angelo, part of the responding team of officers, confirmed that both casualties appeared to have been caught up in the rip currents.

Noting that attempts to swim back to the shore are futile and potentially harmful, he urged those caught to instead let it carry them out.
