Chapin Community Gathers to Honor Beloved Members
In the heart of Chapin, South Carolina, the community is preparing to come together in a heartfelt tribute to remember three cherished individuals from the Chapin Christian Community Church. As the summer sun rises, the loss of these community members weighs heavily on the hearts of those who knew and loved them.
Alec Herring: A Life Well-Lived
Alec Herring, a devoted family man and a longtime member of Chapin Christian Community Church, will be remembered for his extensive contributions, not only to the chicken industry but also to the lives of many in Chapin. Born into the chicken business, Alec began his career in a chicken plant and eventually transitioned to a chicken broker, making a name for himself in his field.
Outside of work, Alec had a zest for life. He adored playing golf and spending sunny afternoons boating on the lake. Time spent with his family and friends was precious to him. Alec’s love extended to his wife of 32 years, Malisa C. Herring, their son Zachary Herring, and daughter-in-law Sara Herring, along with his adorable grandchildren, Harper and Hudson. Family meant the world to Alec, and his legacy lives on through them.
Alec also leaves behind his mother, Patricia Herring, and brother Charles Herring, along with their families. His absence will certainly be felt by many, including cousins Suzanne Wood and Nancy Heath, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Alec was predeceased by his father, William Herring, and his daughter, Bailee S. Herring.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation scheduled for 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the Chapin Christian Community Church, located at 415 Lexington Ave, Chapin, SC. A memorial service will immediately follow at 3:00 PM, where stories and memories will surely fill the air.
Kellie Tisdale Sauls: A Sweet Soul
As the community mourns the loss of Alec, they also remember Kellie Tisdale Sauls, who passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on May 3, 2025, at the age of 55. Born on August 21, 1969, in Sumter, South Carolina, Kellie raised her family in Chapin, where she made a lasting impact on those around her.
Michael “Mike” Neal: A Man of Service
Another beloved figure in Chapin is Michael “Mike” Neal, who departed from this world after a life filled with service, love, and laughter. Born in Columbia, SC, Mike had two sisters and a family that adored him dearly. His early years were spent in Eau Claire, where he graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1962.
After a stint at Richland Tech, Mike proudly served in the Air National Guard. He met and married the love of his life, Evelyn Anne Johnson, in 1966. Their bond lasted an incredible 59 years as they created a loving home for their two daughters, Anne Michelle and Laurie Elizabeth.
Mike was an active member of College Place United Methodist Church and later at Chapin Christian Community Church, where he led various initiatives, including serving as President of the Methodist Men. He was known for his love of the outdoors, enjoying weekends of hunting and fishing with his friends.
Mike dedicated 39 years to his career as a Superintendent at Congaree Construction, followed by 6 additional years with Edcon Construction post-retirement. His involvement didn’t stop there; he was a vibrant member of the Mid Carolina Lion’s Club and the Peak Community Center.
Everyone is welcome to attend Mike’s funeral service, scheduled for 3:00 PM on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Chapin Christian Community Church, with visitation following the service. Memorial contributions can be made to the church’s missions to honor Mike’s legacy of service.
As our Chapin community gathers to support one another, we will undoubtedly find strength in shared memories, tributes, and a deep sense of togetherness. These services not only allow us to remember those we’ve lost but also highlight the love and connections that form the very fabric of our community.
