A Challenging Trip to Sidney
On April 9, 2025, the team set off to compete at the Red Raider Golf Invitational in Sidney. Battling it out against nine other teams, Gothenburg displayed considerable talent and grit, finishing in a 4th-place tie with Perkins County. The hometown heroes, Scottsbluff, stole the spotlight, capturing the team championship, while Gering and Sidney took second and third place, respectively.
Freshman sensation Brady Cornwell emerged as the star of the day for Gothenburg, posting an impressive score of 89 to land in 14th place overall. Fellow freshman Valon Pfeifer was hot on his heels, finishing in 20th place with a score of 92. Tying with Pfeifer, Jaxon Earll scored 92 as well, but landed just behind Pfeifer at 21st place. It’s apparent that these newcomers have the passion and potential to make a splash this season!
The rest of the team also gave it their all; Trey Bartels finished with a score of 94 (24th place), while Dillon Floyd, another dedicated freshman, tied with him for a score of 94, ending in 27th place. The competition is steep, but the Gothenburg golf team is certainly rising to the challenge.
More Action in Lexington and Ogallala
Next up, the varsity team was gearing up for another showdown at Lexington on April 15, 2025. The competition didn’t slow down, as they were also set to compete in Ogallala on April 17. The golf season is in full swing, and the team was eager to sharpen their skills and climb the leaderboard!
A Thrilling Home Dual Against Ogallala
Fast forward to April 22, 2025, and Gothenburg proudly hosted a home dual against the Ogallala Indians. In a nail-biter of a match, Gothenburg pulled off a stellar victory by just two strokes, winning with a score of 192 to Ogallala’s 194. It was a moment of glory for both the players and their supporters!
The junior varsity team also competed in this thrilling dual, finishing with a score of 212. Golfers took on holes 10 through 18, showcasing their skills on familiar terrain. The excitement in the air was infectious as the fans cheered on their local athletes.
Learning and Improving
However, it hasn’t been all smooth sailing for the Gothenburg golf team. In a previous matchup, the St. Pat’s boys golf team overpowered Gothenburg with a score of 224 to 290. The competition has been fierce this spring, but it only adds to the team’s drive to improve. During the dual against Gothenburg, Landon Shepherd led St. Pat’s with a commendable score of 42.
The season opener wasn’t ideal either, as the Broken Bow boys golf team bested Gothenburg with a score of 210 to 232. Despite the challenges, Valon Pfeifer43 in the match against Broken Bow.
