News Summary
Lexington is currently facing significant traffic disruptions due to a disabled vehicle on Sunset Boulevard and ongoing icy conditions leading to multiple accidents. The Fire Department responded to a structure fire at Tates Creek Road, which has also contributed to road closures. Motorists are urged to exercise caution as the community navigates these challenges.
Lexington – The Lexington Police Department is advising residents of ongoing traffic disruptions due to a disabled vehicle on Sunset Boulevard near Northside Boulevard. Outbound traffic in the area is merging into one lane, which is expected to cause delays, particularly for eastbound motorists. Drivers are encouraged to remain vigilant while navigating these congested areas.
In addition to the vehicle-related issues, the Lexington Fire Department responded to a structure fire early Tuesday morning at 3310 Tates Creek Road. Firefighters arrived at approximately 8 a.m. to find a small blaze in the building’s maintenance room. The fire was quickly extinguished, and fortunately, no injuries or property displacements were reported. Fire investigators will remain on the scene to ascertain the fire’s cause and origin.
As a precaution, part of Tates Creek Road at Dove Run Road was closed earlier due to the fire, further contributing to the traffic complications in the area.
Notably, icy conditions also caused a surge in vehicle accidents throughout Lexington between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Thursday. Police reported two injury collisions, 22 non-injury collisions, and seven instances of hazardous traffic situations during this timeframe. Three separate vehicles lost traction on a bridge, resulting in one vehicle ending up on its side and leaving one person with minor injuries.
Ongoing Traffic Alerts and Road Closures
Additional road closures have been implemented due to salt spreading operations after icy conditions caused several crashes. Georgetown Road at Berea Road was closed in both directions for this maintenance effort. Furthermore, a significant accident near Mile Marker 118 on I-75 has resulted in backups on the southbound side of the highway.
Conditions on vulnerable roads contributed to the inner loop of Man O’ War Boulevard at Nichols Park Drive being closed due to slick conditions on the overpass. These ongoing issues are compounding traffic delays and requiring extra caution from drivers in affected areas.
Further Scheduled Lane Closures
In addition to the immediate concerns, motorists should also prepare for lane closures on eastbound Sunset Boulevard/US-378 at Mineral Springs Road. These closures are set to begin at 9 p.m. Tuesday and will remain in effect until 6 a.m. Wednesday. This scheduled maintenance is part of the Mineral Springs Road Right Turn Lane Project, aimed at the installation of new storm drains. Police remind drivers to be aware of staggering traffic changes in the work zone, which may result in merged or shifted lanes.
Safety and Awareness
As the Lexington community faces these traffic complications caused by both accidents and scheduled maintenance projects, it is critical for drivers to stay informed and exercise caution. The Police Department continues to monitor traffic conditions and urges residents to remain alert to ensure their safety and that of others on the road.
As conditions evolve, the city’s departments are working hard to address roadway issues effectively and keep the public updated on any changes that may further impact commute times and traffic patterns in the area.
