Lois Marie Shull Raneri, a cherished member of the Hilton Head community, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2025, at the age of 87. Surrounded by her family at her niece’s home, Marie left behind a legacy of love and strength.
Born on February 19, 1938, in Columbia, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Lois Margaret Kelly Shull and Perry Kaminer Shull, Sr. Overcoming personal loss, she was widowed by her husband, John Russell Raneri. The couple lived in White Plains, New York, where they built their life together until their retirement to Hilton Head Island in 1993. Most recently, Marie resided in Sun City Hilton Head.
Marie graduated from Columbia High School and went on to have a distinguished career, serving for 33 years at the Bank of New York, where she held the position of Vice President upon her retirement. Her professional success was matched by her involvement in various community organizations, including The Business and Professional Women’s Club and The Sons of Italy, highlighting her commitment to both her profession and her cultural heritage.
Known for her adventurous spirit, Marie enjoyed traveling extensively. A highlight of her life was a private meeting with the Pope, arranged by The Sons of Italy, during which she had the opportunity to shake hands with him, a moment she cherished greatly.
A deeply religious woman, Marie was a faithful servant to her Lord and an active member of North Island Baptist Church in Hilton Head, where she built a community of friends and shared her devotion.
Marie is predeceased by her parents, her husband, her brothers Perry Kaminer Shull, Jr. and Johnny Pierce Shull, her sisters Margaret Ann Shull and Alice Faye Shull Cook, and her nephews Ronald William Cook, Jr. and James Brent Shull. She is survived by several family members, including her nephews Perry Kaminer Shull, III, Brian A. Shull (Rayanne), and John Phillip Shull (Ashley), as well as her devoted niece and namesake, Tami Marie Cook Hinson (Gregg), with whom she shared a special bond and who cared for her over the years.
Her extensive family includes great-nephews Jackson William Hinson (Alex), Landon Ronald Hinson, William Cullen Cook, Brent Shull, and Matthew Shull, along with great-nieces Mayson Elizabeth Cook and Savannah Shull, and great-great-nephews Riley David Hinson and Hilton Harold Hinson, born on Marie’s birthday. She is also remembered by her beloved cousin, Nettie Neeley White, and many nieces and nephews from the Raneri side of the family.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at 2:00 PM, with visitation scheduled one hour prior to the service at Caughman Harman Funeral Home, located at 503 N. Lake Dr., Lexington, SC 29072. Burial will follow at St. David Lutheran Church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to North Island Baptist Church in Hilton Head Island.
