Lexington Prepares for Road Closures and New Dining Openings

Downtown Lexington with road closures and new restaurants

News Summary

On May 10, Lexington will see road closures along Main Street to accommodate the Grand Pour on Main event. While traffic will be diverted, this coincides with the opening of two new dining establishments, Wingstop and a modern steakhouse, promising to enhance the local culinary landscape.

Lexington is set to experience road closures and introduce exciting new dining options on Saturday, May 10, 2025, as the city gears up for the Grand Pour on Main event. Main Street/US-1 will be closed starting at noon, specifically from Lake Drive/SC-6 to Church Street, to accommodate the festivities.

Residents and visitors should be aware that traffic detours will be in place due to these closures. Northbound traffic on Lake Drive aimed at accessing Main Street/US-1 will be redirected via Corley Street, South Church Street, and West Main Street. Additionally, drivers wishing to continue on Main Street/US-1 from West Main Street will be diverted to South Church Street, Maiden Lane, and South Lake Drive, eventually returning them to East Main Street. More information on the closures can be obtained by contacting Paul Kirby at 803-587-3144.

While the road closures may cause some inconvenience, they coincide with the opening of two new dining establishments that are set to elevate the culinary scene in downtown Lexington.

The first is Wingstop, a well-known national chicken restaurant chain, which is currently under construction at 736 W. Main St., within the Town Square shopping center. This location is expected to attract substantial foot traffic, as over 47,000 cars travel this section of W. Main Street daily. Local dining options in the Town Square include Food Lion, RF’s Corner Grill, Musician Supply, Terry’s Barber Shop, and Black Tiger Tae Kwan Do, making it a busy hub for both locals and visitors.

In addition to Wingstop, a modern steakhouse concept is set to debut at 101 W. Main St. Suite 200, the former home of Alodia’s Italian Restaurant. This new establishment is expected to open in January 2025 under the experienced hands of restauranteurs Steve Cook, Joe Walker, and Ryan Jones. The new steakhouse aims to combine a classic steak experience with a fresh, modern take, presenting an upscale yet approachable ambiance for diners.

The restaurant will feature a menu with hand-cut steaks, homemade pasta, fresh seafood, and seasonal dishes, appealing to a broad range of tastes. The renovation of the site is being led by Boyer Construction, with interior design elements by 1×1 Design, ensuring that the historic charm of the building is preserved throughout the transformation.

Steve Cook, the owner of several other culinary ventures including Saluda’s and Il Bucato Pizza, brings significant expertise to this project. Joe Walker, a multi-location owner of Marco’s Pizza and a U.S. Army combat veteran, and Ryan Jones, former general manager at Columbia’s Hall’s Chophouse, round out the team, promising a robust dining experience as they blend their backgrounds and skills into this new concept.

As plans progress, the official name of the steakhouse and specific menu offerings will be revealed, adding further anticipation to the restaurant’s launch.

With the combination of the Grand Pour on Main, the anticipated road closures, and the arrival of these new dining options, downtown Lexington is poised for a significant transformation. Residents can look forward to an exciting culinary scene while navigating the necessary adjustments brought by temporary traffic modifications.
