South Carolina witnessed a tragic traffic accident early Tuesday morning when a couple from Fuquay Varina, North Carolina, lost their lives on Interstate 95. Kyle Greene, 32, and Sara E. Greene, 33, were confirmed deceased at the scene, following a collision that also left their child hospitalized.

The incident took place around 12:45 a.m. in Orangeburg County, with both vehicles involved in the crash—a 1987 dump truck and a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox—traveling north on I-95. The Chevrolet Equinox struck the rear of the dump truck at the 87-mile marker, located near the junction with Interstate 26.

Emergency responders arrived quickly, but both Kyle and Sara Greene succumbed to multiple blunt force injuries and were pronounced dead at the accident site. Their child, riding in the back seat of the Chevrolet Equinox, was transported to Prisma Health Richland hospital in Columbia for medical care. The child’s current condition has not been disclosed.

The crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol, which is gathering information to determine the cause of the collision. It has been reported that the driver of the dump truck, who was the sole occupant of that vehicle, was unharmed during the incident. Fortunately, no other injuries have been reported as a result of this crash.

As the investigation continues, questions arise regarding seat belt usage by the occupants of both vehicles. This information has yet to be clarified by the authorities. However, the data available from other incidents paints a concerning picture of road safety in South Carolina.

As of the time of this report, the South Carolina Department of Public Safety indicated a total of 270 fatalities on the state’s roads in 2025. In 2024, the death toll from car crashes climbed to at least 948. Specifically in Orangeburg County, seven fatalities from vehicular incidents have been recorded so far in 2025, following a higher tally of 46 deaths in the county the previous year.

The local coroner has expressed condolences to the families of Kyle and Sara Greene, emphasizing the heartbreaking nature of the tragedy, particularly the impact on their young child who now faces the loss of both parents.

Motorists are urged to remain vigilant and cautious while traveling, as road safety remains a significant concern in the state. The loss of life in this tragic accident underscores the importance of adhering to safety measures in vehicles.
