Baseball Defeats Case Western, 9-4, In Weather-Delayed Game
LEXINGTON, S.C. – The Ithaca College baseball team withstood a near three-hour rain delay against Case Western Reserve on Friday and came away with a 9-4 victory at Lexington County Stadium. The Bombers, who are now 8-3, avenge a loss to the Spartans earlier this season.
IC quickly jumped ahead and never relinquished the lead as the Bombers plated five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Collin Feeney led off with an infield single and Louis Fabbo followed with a base hit to left. Matt Curtis then drove in Feeney with a double to left field and then two runs scored on an error off the bat of Ryan Laubscher. After a single by Ethan Daddabbo and a walk by Riley Brawdy, Ethan Rothstein lifted a sacrifice fly to drive home Laubscher. The fifth run scored on another error off the bat of Colin Dunn. The Spartans chipped away to a 5-3 difference by the fourth inning, but Ithaca went back ahead by three on an RBI double by Laubscher in the bottom of the fourth that brought in Feeney.
Case Western scored again in the top of the seventh to make it 6-4, and then the game was delayed for 2 hours and 38 minutes in the bottom of the inning. After the teams came back onto the field, Feeney singled and an error led to Dunn crossing the plate to make it 7-4. The Bombers tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the eighth as another Spartan error allowed Daddabbo to score, and then Connor Pedersen brought in Riley Brawdy with a sac fly.
Jack Colyer improved to 2-0 on the season with four strikeouts over 6.0 innings pitched. Colyer allowed three runs on six hits in the outing. Sean Kelly tossed 1/3 of an inning, and Conor Burns closed out the game with 2.2 innings of work with a strikeout to pick up the save. Feeney went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the offense, while Curtis, Laubscher, and Rothstein all had two hits in the win.
Ithaca closes out its trip to South Carolina tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. against Oswego.
