LEXINGTON, S.C. — Lexington dug out of a two-touchdown hole Friday night and beat Chapin 31-24 in overtime at Cecil Woolbright Field, with quarterback Easton Crocker finishing it on a 1-yard sneak.
Chapin struck first and built a 14-0 cushion on two scoring passes from Tyler Black, the first to Connor Finney and the second to Ny shawn Palmore. Lexington got on the board before the break when Crocker flipped a 10-yard shovel pass to Victor Kaczenski.
After the Wildcats pulled even early in the third quarter, the Eagles went back in front 17-14 on a field goal. Ian Danson answered by taking the next kickoff back for a touchdown, and a Lexington field goal stretched the margin to 24-17.
Black found Finney again to tie it at 24 with a little more than three minutes to play. Lexington drove for a chance to win in regulation, but Rory Dreher intercepted Crocker near the goal line.
In overtime Lexington had the ball first and scored, then the defense held Chapin at the 6-yard line. Lexington is now 6-3 while Chapin slipped to 5-5. Next week the Wildcats face rival River Bluff, and whichever team wins claims the runner-up slot in Region 3-5A plus a home date in the opening round of the playoffs on Nov. 6.
