IRMO, S.C. — Irmo closes its regular season Friday night against Fox Creek, a 7:30 p.m. region game that gives the Yellow Jackets one last tune-up before the Class 4A playoffs.
Irmo is 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the region and has won three in a row, scoring 56 points at Midland Valley and 52 in a shutout of Aiken over the last two weeks. On the season the Yellow Jackets have outscored opponents 342-110.
First-year starter Brittain Davis has keyed the surge at quarterback. Across the Midland Valley and Aiken games he threw for 551 yards and eight touchdowns, hitting 23 of 34 passes without an interception. The defense has posted three shutouts.
Irmo rebuilt its offense after losing several skill players to transfers and losing running back Tai Phillips, an Alabama commit, to a season-ending injury.
Fox Creek comes in at 1-8 and winless in four region games. The latest ratings rank Irmo No. 12 among Class 4A teams and No. 6 on the Lower State side, a spot that could mean a first-round rematch with Wilson, a team it beat 60-13 in September.
