LEXINGTON, S.C. — Families in Lexington County School District One who want a child in a school outside their home zone have a narrow window to ask for one of a handful of seats for next school year, 2027-28.
Lexington One is offering 10 spots at each participating school, and the seats go only where a school has room. Only legal residents of the district can apply, and they must show proof of residency.
The district school choice page sets the application deadline at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13. If any one school draws more requests than its 10 seats, administrators will draw names in a lottery on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 4 p.m. The drawing takes place at district offices, 100 Tarrar Springs Road, in a conference room. Parents may attend, but they do not need to be there for their child to stay in the drawing.
Families should plan on driving. Lexington One offers no bus service to children who enroll away from their zoned school, so parents and guardians must provide transportation.
A choice seat can also be taken away. The district says students with more than 10 tardies in a semester, suspensions totaling more than five days, a Level III discipline offense or an expulsion recommendation in the prior year may be asked to withdraw at the end of a semester.
