Columbia Welcomes New Assistant Coach to USC Women’s Soccer Program

COLUMBIA, SC – The University of South Carolina women’s soccer program has proudly announced the addition of Tanner Osborne as the new assistant coach to head coach Shelley Smith’s staff. This exciting news comes as a boon to the team, with Osborne bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to the Gamecocks.

Impressive Background and Achievements

A South Carolina native, Tanner Osborne joins the Gamecocks after a successful eight-year stint with the Presbyterian women’s soccer team. During his time with the program, Osborne played a pivotal role in coaching the team back into the Big South Conference tournament in 2019, as well as overseeing significant improvements in win totals and securing multiple players for post-season All-Conference selections.

Aside from his contributions to Presbyterian College, Osborne also served as an assistant coach with the USL II South Carolina United Bantams and the South Carolina Olympic Development Program. His dedication to coaching has seen several of his players reach professional levels, with notable success stories including Bobby Edwards, who signed with FC Cincinnati of the MLS.

Extensive Coaching Experience

With a background that includes coaching both men’s and women’s teams, as well as youth players, Osborne brings a diverse skill set to the Gamecocks. His experience as a goalkeeper coach will be particularly valuable to the team, having worked with top-tier goalkeepers who have gone on to achieve great success in their careers.

Osborne’s time at Lexington High School, where he served as the assistant varsity coach and goalkeeper coach, further underscores his commitment to developing talent at all levels.
