IRMO, S.C. – The Irmo community came together on Sunday afternoon to celebrate a 12-year-old girl who has overcome cancer after a two-and-a-half-year battle.
The young girl, Bri Neel, was diagnosed with leukemia on Christmas Day in 2021, a shocking revelation that turned her family’s world upside down. Bri’s father, Bert Neel, recalled the emotional moment when they received the diagnosis while preparing for Christmas dinner.
Despite the challenges she faced during her treatment, Bri displayed remarkable strength and resilience, becoming an inspiration to those around her. Her father spoke of her courage, saying, “She was comforting us because of her strength, and that’s something – a 10-year-old telling you that, it’s incredible.”
Celebration Parade and Gratitude
To mark Bri’s successful battle against cancer, dozens of friends and family members gathered to celebrate this significant milestone in her life. A parade of local law enforcement and first responders joined the festivities, expressing their support and admiration for Bri’s bravery.
Bert Neel expressed his gratitude to the medical staff at Prisma Health Children’s Hospital-Midlands, where Bri received treatment. He acknowledged the dedication and care provided by the hospital team, calling them “our superheroes” for their lifesaving efforts.
