FORT MILL, S.C. — Lexington traveled to Bob Jones Stadium for the opening round of the Class 5A Upper State playoffs Friday night and came home with a 58-21 loss to Fort Mill.
The Wildcats were in trouble almost immediately. Fort Mill picked off a Lexington throw on the third snap of the game, deep in Lexington territory, and turned it into a short touchdown pass. The Yellow Jackets put up 21 points in the first quarter.
Lexington did pull even once, scoring on a 1-yard run after the opening Fort Mill touchdown. From there the hosts took over, getting four first-half touchdown passes from their quarterback and carrying a 35-7 lead into the break.
Fort Mill finished with three interceptions, and each of the last two set up a touchdown. A third-quarter field goal and a 12-yard scoring run pushed the margin further.
Lexington found the end zone twice on the ground late in the fourth quarter, but Fort Mill answered both times with short rushing scores to close it out.
The night marked the first home playoff game for Fort Mill since 2014.
