LEXINGTON, S.C. — River Bluff begins its playoff run at home in Lexington on Friday, Nov. 6, when the Gators welcome Spartanburg in the first round of the Class 5A Upper State bracket.
The Gators enter at 8-2 after closing the regular season with a 28-14 road win at Lexington on Oct. 30. That finish earned River Bluff its first appearance in the final regular-season SI Top 25 state rankings, and the Gators are one of only five ranked teams playing in the opening round.
Spartanburg comes in at 2-8. The Vikings dropped their finale 31-14 at Dorman on the same night.
This will be the first time the two programs have met. The stakes go beyond a single win, since whoever advances gets a second-round trip to Dorman, which drew a bye.
The state playoffs look different this fall. The South Carolina High School League has folded its top tier into one consolidated Class 5A bracket after two seasons split into two divisions.
