The City of Cayce Council Approves Safety Action Plan for Intersection Improvements

The City of Cayce, located in South Carolina, is taking proactive steps to enhance roadway safety by approving a comprehensive Safety Action Plan aimed at addressing hazardous intersections. With a grant of $160,000 from the Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All program, the city plans to implement intersection improvements at four critical locations.

Key Intersections for Safety Enhancement

The intersections identified for improvement under the Safety Action Plan include:

  • The 3000 block of Knox Abbott Drive and 12th Street
  • Frink Street and Julius Felder Street
  • 12th Street and Frink Street

Consultant Assistance for Strategic Plan Development

To effectively address pedestrian safety issues and promote emission-friendly transportation solutions such as walking paths and expanded bike lanes, the City of Cayce will engage a consultant to aid in the development of the strategic plan. The goal is to minimize accidents and fatalities at these hazardous intersections.

Funding and Timeline

During a recent City Council meeting held on April 17, the grant award was approved, with the council allocating matching funds of up to $40,000 from the General Fund Balance. The city estimates that it may take anywhere from six months to a year to formulate action plans for the identified intersections, as reported by local sources.

Initiative Benefits

The Safety Action Plan underscores the city’s commitment to prioritizing the safety of residents and visitors alike. By implementing targeted improvements at key intersections, Cayce hopes to create a safer environment for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists, ultimately reducing the number of accidents and enhancing overall roadway safety.
