LEXINGTON, S.C. — Lexington County voters had already cast 49,479 ballots through Oct. 30 ahead of the Tuesday, Nov. 3, general election, based on daily counts from the South Carolina Election Commission.
Nearly all of those, 47,649, were cast in person during early voting. Another 1,830 came in by mail, and 558 mailed ballots were still out. Mail ballots must arrive by Nov. 3 to count, and no ballots are tallied until the polls close.
School boards draw the most local competition. Eight candidates are running for the Lexington School District 1 board of trustees, four for District 2, three for District 4 and four for the Lexington County seats on the Lexington-Richland School District 5 board.
Four Lexington County Council seats, in Districts 2, 7, 8 and 9, are on the ballot, each with a single candidate, as is the race for probate judge. Darrell Hudson currently chairs the county council.
Voters need a valid photo ID. Questions go to the county registration and elections office at 605 West Main Street, Suite C, in Lexington. Counties certify results by Nov. 6.
